Mrs. Rajam Krishnan, who consistently focuses her writing on social issues, has in this novel vividly portrayed the plight of educated women in Tamil Nadu today. In these times when humanity is on the wane, the characters she presents kindle a sense of hope within us.

Many women move among us—blind despite having eyes, mute despite having voices—acting merely as bearers of burdens and ornaments. There are also many who struggle, unsure of the true meaning of freedom; unable to fully embrace Western culture yet unable to abandon their own traditions, they find themselves adrift and lose their sense of self. This novel offers much-needed clarity amidst such cultural confusion.

At a time when one feels exasperated by seeing and reading about things in movies and magazines that defy the laws of nature, this novel lances the festering wound and applies a healing balm.
